Why Shadow Commission?
Throughout the Old Testament, the word shadow is used as a representation of God's protection for His people.
The safest place we can be is under the shadow of the Almighty.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1)
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge,
till the storms of destruction pass by. (Psalm 57:1)
And I have put my words in your mouth
and covered you in the shadow of my hand,
establishing[a] the heavens
and laying the foundations of the earth,
and saying to Zion, ‘You are my people. (Isaiah 51:16)
The Commission
The word shadow is also used to describe an image cast by an object representing the form of the real object. We are all living in the shadow of the truth and reality that is our future if we give everything to our Savior who gave everything to save us. The beauty of this world is but a shadow of the beauty of Heaven.
We, the church, are called to represent Jesus here and now...living as a type and shadow of the beauty, love, and righteousness of God's Kingdom here on Earth.
We are COMMISSIONED to give a picture of who He is to this world, carrying His light, glory, and presence into every sphere of society. Driving out the darkness because the Kingdom of Light dwells inside of us.
We cannot do this without an intimate relationship with our Savior and a willingness to obey. To literally deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow after Jesus. (Matthew 16:24)
We are surrounded by lost, hurting and addicted people. We, who know the truth, must not shrink back. We have a commission to share His love and truth with those He puts in our lives. To lay up for ourselves treasure in Heaven...
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where
thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)
