Preparation

First, this is not an article about gathering and storing food, specifically.

Second, if you haven't read the Spiritual and Emotional Preparation article...start there. It is foundational.

​

Why Do We Need to Prepare?

Is it so we can hunger down in the event of an EMP or attack on US Soil? Us four and no more? Make sure we have enough food, water and supplies to weather the storm. Get our 72 hour pack and then our 7 day pack and then our 3 year pack?

​

Yeah, that's not what I'm talking about.

​

A number of years ago our church community jumped into preparing along with the non-church crowd. But they had a different take on it and used the phrase, "Prepare to Share"

​

As believers in Jesus Christ, we prepare for future challenges because we want to be a part of the solution, not the problem in a crisis. We want to be a light in the storm.

​

So, we seek the Lord and follow His directions to be prepared to care for ourselves in an emergency as well as anyone the Lord sends to us who needs help.

​

What Should We Be Doing Right Now?

 

Seek the Lord

No, don't roll your eyes at me because you already knew that...we have some very specific things we need to ask God:

1. Are we where​ we are supposed to be? If you are called to be in the city, be there. He has you there for a reason. If you are called to be on a property in the middle of nowhere, be there. God has called my daughter and her husband to a different place and level of preparation than the rest of the family. We live in the mountains far from major cities. They live in a large metropolitan area and are sure they are called there.

2. How do we need to prepare? Let Him show you. What He has asked my family to do is not the same as what He has asked your family to do. My family and I are learning how to live off the land and off the grid. My daughter and her husband are being trained in emergency response, protection, and emergency medical care.

3. What should we be gathering/purchasing? Again, God has a specific plan for you and your family. Seek Him and obey whether it make sense or not.

Do What He Says

There is no time to waste once He has made one part of His plan clear. If He tells you to buy seeds or fruit trees or blankets or solar Bibles, do it. If He tells to move or stay or do something to prepare where you are living, don't wait. Get it done. If He tells you to take a class or learn how to do something, do it now and give it your all! (Plus take good notes.)

Connect with Others

I would venture to say you and your family are one piece of a puzzle that will be a light and refuge to many in the difficult days ahead. He is preparing others to fit with your family in that puzzle. Seek Him now and be open to connecting with others of like mind. Encourage one another, pray together, lift one another up. 

​

Get Oil In Your Lamp

If you still haven't read the article here, please do so. The absolute most important thing we can do is be intimate with our Savior and Holy Spirit. If we are, we will hear Him tell us when, how, and where and all the rest at the right time. If we are, then no matter what we face, we will stand strong in HIS strength.

​

Do. Not. Fear.

Anytime we start taking about the state of the world or preparation, the enemy would like nothing more than to get us stuck in fear. If you are a child of God, then you have nothing to fear!

 

God says, "Fear Not for I am with you!" (Isaiah 41:10)

​

You aren't living for this world but for eternity where all the pain and challenge will disappear.

 

If you are a child of God, filled with the living God, then put on your armor and take your thoughts captive and don't let fear be a part of your mind or come out of your mouth. Don't let fear drive you or stop you.
