God's Voice or the devil's...
Choose Wisely

It's funny how blurry our thoughts can be. How the enemy whispers to us and we think it is our own thoughts. And how quiet God's whispers seem when our thoughts are spinning out of control. The saying goes - the real battlefield is in the mind.

What happens when we think on or agree with the enemy's thoughts about us or a situation we are in:

  • The battle in our mind intensifies.

  • We actually draw the enemy closer to us.

  • We open ourselves up to the enemy's power and influence.

  • It becomes even harder to discern the truth.

On the other hand, when we turn our minds to the things of God:

  • We draw God closer.

  • His peace floods our minds.

  • Hope is restored.

  • We open ourselves up to God's power and influence.

  • We are able to see the truth more clearly and resist the enemy more successfully.

First - learn to discern the difference between God's voice and the enemy's.

When we realize we have a thought that may not be from God, we can ask ourselves: Is that thought building me or someone else or tearing down?

This is a handy table to keep near. Often just reading the list will allow us to immediately recognize a thought from the devil.

Once you have identified that it isn't God's voice...you have a choice!

Of course, you can continue agreeing with those thoughts (not recommended) or you can do as the Bible says in James 4:7

...submit to God, resist the devil & he will flee from you.

Tools you need to end the voice of the devil, our accuser:

  1. God's Word - be in it daily, know it, ask God to show you what scripture in His Word you can pray to end the devil's voice on that issue.

  2. Prayer - stop the thought, begin to talk to your Heavenly Father and ask Him for His perspective...then listen because He speaks to His sheep..

  3. Worship & Praise - read your favorite Psalms out loud, focus on a worship or praise song.

  4. Remember - God's voice is quiet and still and calm, we have to quiet the noise in our minds to give Him space to speak.

Our strength to resist the devil when He comes:

  • Leaning on God's strength (Ephesians 6:10 and 2 Corinthians 12:9)

  • Being in His Word - which is Light, Truth, Food, Life (Psalm 119:105, John 17:17, Matthew 4:4, John 6:63)

  • Intimacy with Holy Spirit - He helps us in our weakness, gives power and help and freedom (Romans 8:26, Acts 1:8, John 14:26, 2 Corinthians 3:17

Next time you find yourself wrestling with your thoughts...choose wisely!

God's voice stills, leads, reassures, enlightens, encourages, comforts, calms, convicts but satan's voice rushes, pushes, frightens, confuses, discourages, worries, obsesses, condemns
